Earlier Thursday, Nashat Akram's agent revealed numerous interest of European clubs in the Iraqi talent. Furthermore, he added, “There are currently negotiations underway with Wolverhampton Wanderers FC of the English Premier League. “ The upcoming days should reveal more on the negotiations status.
On the other hand, it has been disclosed that negotiations with Al Zamalek has not reached an advanced stage.
After proper consultation and mutual agreement, Iraq playmaker Nashat Akram canceled his 2-year contract remaining with Dutch champions FC Twente. After joining Twente last July, Akram was bugged by a thigh injury that limited his participation with the Dutch champions. "We have great admiration for the way Nashat has manifested himself last season. Partly due to a nasty injury, incurred during training camp in La Manga, he has not been able to achieve athletic goals. We wish him success in his further career,” added the club’s President Joop Munsterman.
On another note, the 25-year-old has not yet revealed his next destination as he is studying several offers from North America, Europe, and Arab clubs.
Earlier Friday, FC Twente’s midfielder Nashat Akram made his official comeback in an exhibition match against FC Emmen. After resuming training with Twente’s squad, Akram was in action with Twente’s reserves team against FC Emmen that ended 0-2 for the Tukkers. The midfielder was sidelined for few months after suffering a thigh injury on January.
After suffering a thigh injury for couple of months, Nashat Akram resumed training earlier this week with Twente’s first team squad. The midfielder hopes to make his return on Saturday when Twente takes on VVV-Venlo. With five weeks to go, the league top leaders remain ahead in the Eredivisie with 74 points and Ajax following with 70.
On Thursday, Iraq international Nashat Akram underwent MRI testing and evaluation for his thigh injury which revealed full recovery. Akram has been undergoing rehabilitation with physiotherapist Marcel lately and expected to join Twente’s training squad next week.
Nashat Akram suffered an early injury during the exhibition game that took place between FC Twente and Anderlecht during the training camp that was held in Spain earlier this week. Akram left the game in the 25th minute with an injury status unclear. After returning home to Enschede, Akram went through an MRI examination that revealed a torn muscle in his right thigh that will put him out of action for the next 6-8 weeks.
Iraq’s national player Nashat Akram was selected sixth as the best player in the Arab world of 2009 in a public voting referendum organized by the Arab News newspaper Al Ray News. Algerian Karim Ziani was crowned as the best player holding the first place in the poll. Akram totaled 11881 votes from half a million votes which resulted sixth in the referendum.
FC Twente's 18th week match against FC Utrecht in the Eredivisie has been called off due to the winter conditions that took place earlier this Sunday. The match has been postponed till further notice.
Nashat Akram dismissed rumors that he is linked with Al Rayyan on a possible move. Akram denied that there has been any connection with Al Rayyan side, refusing all the circulating rumors from the media and online websites. Akram stated the following regarding the rumor," I'm not aware of this subject, and I'm currently with FC Twente and not considering a move to any other club.
